Wine merchant Vintopia Wine, a bespoke sustainable and organic vintner which sells to both trade and public and employs ten people, is planning to take its business up a gear with a move to open the county's first 'wine barn'.

Leesa Cole, the company's administrator said: "We began Vintopia about a decade ago and started out in Tetbury, where we eventually outgrew the premises and since then we have operated from the boutique Wine Box unit in Nailsworth's Mills Estate, so we are very excited with the expansion to the barn.

"It's will be a large-scale wine shop and farm shop destination and is just a few doors down from where we now are."

Andy Cole, managing director, said: "Our small-but-perfectly-formed Wine Box has enjoyed fantastic success and we're thrilled to be able to expand with this magnificent new structure just across the way from where we currently sit."

Mr Cole added he aims to offer a "foodie destination in which to meet up with friends, discover some seriously tasty new tipples and indulge in the finest fodder that our locale has to offer."

Construction work has already begun on the 1,000 square foot "rustic chic" Wine Barn, which sits alongside Nailsworth Garden Centre on Avening Road, ready for an opening date of late summer 2023.

As a luxury wine and alcohol retail destination offering comfortable seating and a farm shop with artisan produce, the Barn will feature more than 400 specialist varieties of wines, spirits and beers, as well as charcuterie, cheeses and locally-sourced delicacies.

Vinotopia Wine's expert team come from a background of hospitality and events and say that the aim is to create "a luxurious yet welcoming wine and food destination for the area; a vibrant and attractive space to meet with friends, enjoy a bite to eat and pick up a specialist bottle that you wouldn't find on your average supermarket shelf."

The Barn, with an event capacity of 100, also plans regular "festival-style" pop-up dining events, teaming up with local and specialist wine/spirit suppliers for exclusive tasting events, as well as festival-style pop-up dining dates with local, artisan food trucks.

Mr Cole said: "The Barn is being built from the ground-up, currently in construction stages with completion planned for late summer 2023" adding that the styling will feature "light, bright interiors that marries a rustic chic barn vibe with a 'polished industrial' look; think floor-to-ceiling glass, exposed wooden beams, a polished concrete floor and subtle, atmospheric lighting."

Exclusive hire option will also be offered and an external area overlooking the River Frome will allow up to 30 customers to enjoy drinks and light food options.

Customers will also be able to sample over 400 lines of wine in the Barn through an Enomatic Wine Dispenser machine, offering tasters in 25ml, 50ml or 125ml measures.
